As I'm writing this, these Ai songs are being played for the 12th time continuously in my iPhone.
I must say, it seemed to have missed the trick of ARR's usual albums; the non-catchy first time experience. Apart from that, there's no complaint about the album, it's just gonna be one more diamond in the throne of A R Rahman.
the first day, day before yesterday, when I listened to the tracks, I had a feeling the best song of the album is going to be "Ennodu nee irunthaal, uyirodu iruppen", but after 2 days of continuous listening, I'm confident enough about the favourite track, that will be "Pookkale konjam Oyvedunkal"!
What a melody it is, plus very adventurous song with the lyrics as well. Sung by the two beautiful silky vocals; belongs to Haricharan and ever melodious Shreya Goshal. The song started with the high voice of Hari, who is continuously a part of Rahman's magic recent times, and suddenly felt the Sufi feel, that satisfaction feel, when "that" magical girl vocal came into play! You would feel God in that beautiful aalap (Dhina Dhidhir nane naa..!), a typical Shreya touch. Later the song travels with the brilliance of both karnatic specialized singers.
But the best thing about the song is, it gives some hint about the movie, Who is that "Ai". the beautiful lyrics rendered to the song explains the "Ai" character with lots of faces. The song itself is giving me a feel that it is sung by that different alien specie they showed in the trailer! As it loves a beautiful human girl, and sings about her.
The second best song of the album would be "Ennodu nee irunthaal, uyirodu iruppen", it has a reprised edition as well, both sounds awesome! With Sid Sriram's voice, first I felt the justification he did for the song is not up-to expectation, but later I realized the song with the character of that "Alien Ai", and it suits perfectly fine! Again, its just my guess, not sure that is what ever ARR thought or not. The reprise version was slight better because of Chinmayee's voice. Sunitha sarathy also equaled the task with Sid.
The best thing about this song is lyrics! man, it affected me like anything, attractive music made the lyrics audible even with Sid's voice. (Remember he was the one who sung adiye)
The song comes to the peak when the verses came as this :
"Unmai kaadhal yaarenraal, unnai ennai solvene,
Neeyum naanum poi enraal, kaadhalai thedik kolvene
Koondhal meesai onraaha oosi noolil thaippene
Thengaaikkulle neer pola nenjil thekki vaippene". Epic!
And when the girl sings, she tries to understand the alien between good and bad, and the lyrics shows that by the selected words as "Mudhalai kulaththil malaraai malarnthen, kulanthai aruke kurangaai payanthen".
The third in my list is mersalayiten, sung by the young sensation, Anirudh. Don't know whether he gave his best for ARR, but the song is ok to listen. but when he said that artificial "kadavule kadavule" in the reprise edition, I feel its..... artificial. would've been better.
The song "ladio" is great, very energetic, but couldn't stop a feeling that I heard this kinda english songs a lot. It has some piece of chorus same as Katy perry's "Roar" song. Nikita Gandhi did a fabulous job with the presentation of the song.
And the final song, Aila Aila. more like a pop song, Aditya Rao and Natalie did well to give a good song, but its not enough to compete with the other songs in the album, hence it is the least heard track in the album. but of course, in each song ARR keeps tiny surprises; here too in this song, a small gazzal comes in Hindi in the interlude. Who knows, maybe after some days it will be in the top hit song!
Altogether, looking forward to the Shankar's Ai with ARR's AI, the Artificial Intelligence Ai :)
